The Research Centre for the Humanities of the Hungarian Research Network conducts essential research by international standards in the fields of philosophy, literary studies, art history, ethnography, archaeology, history, musicology, archaeogenomics and classical philology.
The nine institutes that constitutes the HUN-REN Research Centre for the Humanities examine and interpret the entirety of the Hungarian past, reflecting on the challenges of the present.
The fundamental task of the Research Center is to explore and nurture the Hungarian cultural heritage, and thus strengthen the Hungarian identity. In this spirit, it establishes and maintains research groups at both central and institutional levels to study topics essential to national identity. Its mission is to bring the historically accumulated specific Hungarian experiences into the international discourse, to renew communication with the actors of the domestic and international scientific sphere, and to make the research of the humanities visible to the public.
